The new generation of search engines are coming...well, not truley new search algorithms, but visualization and characterization tools designed to help you sort out the mess that is the world wide web.

Will they make things easier? Probably not.

The internet is an open source, for anybody to put anything on. With the introduction of blogging, it's easier than ever to put what ever junk you have floating in your head onto the internet. On top of this, it's one big jumbled-linked-mess of a spider web type thing. The mess is an intrinsic feature...the only things I can think that could solve this problem are:

One, a registration and naming system that is organized (like the dewey decimal system); where the name of your site and the information it contains has to have some sort of relevance to each other. Ofcourse this isn't really feasible.

Second, a webcrawler application (those programs that essentially do the dirty work for sites like google, scouring the internet looking for words, keeping track of sites, jumping through links) with some sort of machine intelligence, so that it can "webcrawl" intelligently, cutting off the fat, analysing the results, making me a cup of coffee while it's at it. This, too, is about as feasible as a T101 breaking into my office and playing an old dixieland tune for my enjoyment.

Third... an act of God. The feasibility of this option is up for debate.
